Marco Garbini presented the outreach activities of the EEE: Extreme Energy Events Project at the ICHEP 2022 conference held in Bologna from 6 to 13 July 2022.The International Conference on High Energy Physics is one of the leading conferences in the field of High Energy Physics.
More than 1000 physicists from around the world attended the conference sharing the latest advances in particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology, accelerator science and discuss future projects. It was one of the first major events in person after the Pandemic.
The status and activities of the EEE Project were presented in the Education & Outreach session of the Conference. In particular the talk was focused on the organization of the experiment and the work carried out by all participants in the experiment in the last two difficult years and the challenges of the "green transition" undertaken by the Collaboration.

The Project Extreme Energy Events - Science inside Schools (EEE), is a special Centro Femri research activity about the origin of cosmics rays, performed in collaboration with INFN carried out with the essential contribution of students and teachers of high schools.
Each of the participating Institutes hosts a "telescope" made of the most advanced particle detectors (Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers, MRPC). EEE telescopes are put in coincidence using GPS, with the goal to detect cosmic muons and extensive showers (as large as a small town), produced by primary cosmic rays of the highest energy. Data from all telescopes are sent to CNAF-INFN, in Bologna, to allow track reconstruction so that all relevant information can be stored in a database to be later available for analysis.
Students are involved in the fundamental task to build the chambers, starting from simple materials to arrive to sophisticated high precision detectors. This task is accomplished at CERN, one of the most important particle physics laboratories in the world, which is made open to students specifically for this project. Students have also the task to control the correct operation of the telescope installed at their school.
Presently 60 high schools distributed across Italy host a telescope. Other 53 institutes participate to the project by analyzing data. More than 60 billion tracks have been collected in the past years and are presently studied by students and professional researchers performing interesting analysis, some of which have already been published in various international scientific journals.

The students of the EEE project at Erice: cosmic ray hunters
The Eight Conference of the Centro Fermi projects, devoted to the Extreme Energy Events - Science in the Schools- experiment, took place from 6th to 8th December 2017 at the "Ettore Majorana" Center and Foundation for Scientific Culture at Erice. 150 students, from 45 high schools in Italy, gathered to talk about cosmic rays, presented the results of the activities performed locally, attended masterclasses about the use of the EEE data, and listened to lectures on statistics and gravitational waves. It was a full immersion of two days, taking place in the wonderful facilities of the Center, which put in direct contact school students and teachers with the project researches, giving the occasion to exchange information and plan together the activities for the future.
The students had the possibility to put in practice what they have learnt by performing a direct measure of the cosmic ray flux using the Cosmic Boxes, small portable particle detectors, assembled for the occasion by the EEE researchers. They wandered in the small streets of the historical center of Erice, moving later to visit the wonderful temple at Segesta and in the afternoon of the same day the marina drive of Castellammare del Golfo, bringing with them their small detectors, to measure the cosmic rays flux at different altitudes. The results obtained have been put together and discussed the last day of the meeting, and will be the subject of a forthcoming paper on the Giornale di Fisica.
The students left Erice bringing with them an unforgettable experience and a renovated enthusiasm to continue what they are doing at the home institutes, taking care of the instrumentations and collecting data for the experiment. One more opportunity to live, along their adventure in the exciting world of physics research.
